The slope down from the rear of the house was steep so we built up the base of the main terrace using hardcore, and then mounded soil around to make cascading planting beds on all sides, with steps leading down to the lawn. The terraces and steps are made from locally sourced reclaimed yorkstone,
Generous naturalistic planting beds stretch out towards the bottom of the garden, with grass paths weaving between them, leading you on a journey around the whole garden - through open sunny areas and shady woodland spots, and then back up to the terraces. The colours and textures of the planting ebb and flow throughout the scheme, constantly evolvong through the seasons.
The planting is left largely to it's own devices, other than an annual cut back in late winter.
