As an old Vicarage, the house is angled towards the village church rather than the breathtaking views of the valley. One of the challenges was to subtly reorientate the garden to align with the valley beyond, which we did with organically shaped planting beds which reach out towards to view, enveloping the main lawn and leading the eye seamlessly from the garden into the distance.
We incorporated a vegetable garden and a lightly concealed children's 'play lawn', and created a journey through the garden - taking in a woodland walk, prairie-style planting, native wildflower meadows, and a water feature crafted from a locally sourced stone trough - a link to the grazing pastures beyond the garden.
In the front garden we designed a gravel driveway bounded by yorkstone cobbles, a herb garden against the South-facing wall, and we restored the small apple orchard by sowing a wildflower meadow and replacing the dead and dying trees with heritage varieties.
