The multi-use games area (MUGA) doubles as a 'waiting room' for parents at pick-up time, so it also had to be a welcoming, gardenesque space. HFA designed raised beds and a series of bespoke oak benches around the perimeter of the space, with tough hornbeam hedging for privacy. A scheme of robust, exuberant perennials and evergreen grasses were selected for their ability to weather the effects of ball games, as well as their year-round greenery.
The new car park is both stylish and functional, using simple materials in exciting ways to enhance the space and reflect the school's high standards and progressive approach.
In the main entrance garden, we reshaped the existing lawn, expanded the planting beds, and designed a scheme which looks smart yet relaxed, with a palette of soft pastels and plenty of winter-green groundcover.
For the outdoor classroom we designed a bespoke hardwood archway and new planting beds filled with 'hot' colours like bright reds, oranges an yellows. We hope to engage the children in the joys of the natural world by varying the styles and palettes across the site and bringing plenty of fun to the planting.
